vht night shade- Black tail light spray

Id have to agree with celly, ive never really understood tinted headlights. Even the tinted covers are retarded. My friend used to have a set on his half ton truck and as soon as it started getting dark he would have to pull over and take them off otherwise the headlights were next to useless. Although i have to admit id be curious to do a very light coat on my tails as it would look kinda like the harley lights on the f150's.

Amen brotha on the tinted headlight front. I want my lights to be as bright as possible without blinding others. Covers/tint kind of defeat the purpose of having headlights.

If you're looking for Nightshades, I get mine at Mopac in Calgary (you've gone one in Edmonton too). I've also seen it at Auto Value in the past. Cheaper than you see it listed for in the US too.

I like my look of my headlight covers. I just put new fog lights in so I don't have to pull them off at night... no cops have busted me for it. And I got the aftermarket tails, they look better and put out just as much light. But I kinda want to tint the taillights alittle darker. just for the look during the day.

My cousin who's in the autorepair industry said that two ways of tinting is to either tint your clear coat with black or take black paint and reduce it a lot so with every coat it gets alittle darker so it grows to the level you want it.

Ive seen the nightshades at jbs and stuff here just never had the drive to do it yet. Too many other bigger projects to work on for it.

Does anybody have a can or two theyd like to sell?
I WANNA BUY A CAN OR TWO!! I cant find it anywhere though, just enough to do all three of the tails on my 92, kinda dark, I might do my fogs too.

eBay

(and what a rip off....I've paid about $8 Canadian in the past....around $6 US. Shipping isn't simple because this stuff is flammable).

I dont have PayPal, im only 16.

Even if I could ship you some, I only deal with Paypal so you may run into that issue with others. Get your parents to help you out.

Another option is to find some Testors smoke clear. It's for tinting windows on scale models. People have done that in the past with success.

Another option is not to tint at all. :p:

Well im in no rush now, im looking and really interested at a 96 explorer i found, and it has the amber, red and white tails, so whenever i get that, im DEFF gonna need a can, im at least gonna do the red and amber, or the amber and white, im not sure yet, DEFF the amber though haha

I bought my VHT at Advanced Auto. It was in stock and shelved with the clearcoat. I applied around 4 moderate coats and only did like 3 coats of clear. I should probably take them back off and put 3 more coats of clear and then wetsand, but I'm trying to sell the car and it looks good the way it is, so I don't care, haha. Here's a pic:

My headlights were smoked by the manufacturer. They have a shine to them that the tails don't, but it's because I didn't do enough clear. I've seen a lot of VHT smoked tails that look like glass after wetsanding.

they look like glass cause u gotta wet sand the vht, then use real clear coat on them, not rattlecan clear

The glass look doesn't come from wetsanding the the VHT. It comes from wetsanding and polishing the clear. It has nothing to do with rattlecan vs. spraygun.

autobody clear is def a brighter finish. i had spray can clear on mine, wet sanded and polished. there is no comparison now that i have sprayed them with real clear, that hasnt even been sanded and polished yet.

I'm not going to go as far as saying that all clearcoat is created equal, but you don't have to go to an autobody shop to get great results. It's been done time and time again by members here and other auto enthusiests around the world. The key to getting those results is how much time you're willing to put into the job. I'm not sure what you mean by saying "autobody clear is def a brighter finish". Clearcoat is just that, clear. It isn't luminescent. It can give the appearance of depth or enhance reflections, but it doesn't make the surface brighter.

Here's a great example of what you can do with VHT, rattlecan clear, and a little patience.

Yea I know where thats at, dont think ive seen you....although thats like the most common bodystyle explorer around here :p:

My uncle lived there for about 3 years, he used to always have pocketbikes, and dirtbikes and stuff like that.
I just took a trip up to that junkyard by you, where that little golf cart place is, turn down that road and its about probably 5 miles down on the left.
