sorry i was including tranny fluid :p
I was quite a bit upset earlier, i let it trouble me too much.

Ill get lookin for em, id get them off you but i am super-retarded with buying stuff over the net lol:D.

So this is definately something i should do? Or is there like a 90% chance its not going to do anything?

Thanks for all the help again guys :chug:

I cannot promise you that replacing that O ring is going to solve it. In fact I'd say maybe 75% chance it won't. I just went back and re-read the thread. This is one of the more perplexing ones I've run across. But for the fact you had forward without the vacuum line attached, I'd be looking at other things like a check ball in the forward clutch drum etc.... but the "guts" sound intact. I still wish I had some line pressure readings... The simple truth is I do not know what the problem is here.

Yeah i knew the problem was not easily diagnosed, I'm just afraid of the worst.. you guys have been nothing but great help along the way, i would of been up s*** creek without a paddle if you werent helping out so much.

Ill give the o-ring a shot i think. As for the check ball in the forward clutch drum, i'll look into it as well. And im still keeping my eye out for a pressure guage, i am also very curious if im getting any pressure, or getting pressure and it dropping out. I also noticed a gap were a check ball could of been. I have 4 as it is, which now that i think of it im not sure if there is more?

If all else fails and the transmission has to be dropped, were buying a rebuilt one so i can tinker with this one and try to find the problem.

The check ball issue would only be known if you tore down the tranny. I am trying to think of any and everything we could check without removing it. Plus, the fact you had drive before is not suggestive of a forward clutch issue.

I am still thinking the valve body (or possibly the low/reverse servo seals) might be where the problem is.... yet I realize you have done most of the things which should make it work.

That TV/modulator issue has me completely baffled.

Hmm, well dont forget i'm not that good with this stuff, so perhaps i missed something? Its more then likely. I'm at a point were i must find out for myself whats wrong, not only because its one hell of a problem, but also if ive got this far already, may as well keep going. But yeah keep in mind i probably missed something knowing me. Im pretty much up for anything without dropping it.

As for the pressure guage, is there probably a chance i could get away with practically any? Since were mainly concerned about gettin pressure in the first place?

Thanks again for the input guys, something to look forward to when i came home. :chug::D

Alrighty, sounds good.

I took it for a test drive today, it moved, i got it around the barn in drive. I had to let it idle for it to move, and if i pressed the gas it would make little to no difference.

Before i rebuilt the valve body i had no drive at all. Reverse is as strong as ever.

Im leaning towards the larger o-ring i did not replace at the moment. Im going to go into town tomorrow for work, so i may go out at lunch or make some calls to get ahold of a new o-ring, as well as a pressure guage.

Well after all that, without me knowing my parents called a transmission guy, he suggests all my forward clutches are burnt out, and its going friday (possibly thursday). He is going to drop it, open it up, fix the clutches, check for other problems, and if hes got any extra parts around his shop hes going to try and fix it up even better, no charge. Right now he estimates itl be $450 Canadian.

I'm a bit concerned of what not doing a full rebuild will cause, though its only had about 6000km on it since the last rebuild.

Also concerned once again about having the vacume line off for a while causing the clutches to burn out?

Anyways thanks a ton for the help guys, i've even become elite cause of this :D

Add the Sonnax manual valve indexer. It is good insurance.

ok, ill ask if he can do that for me. Thanks

Also ask him to save the bad parts. It may in fact need a rebuild... I sure as heck haven't been much help. But I have to question the forward clutch theory. That clutch is used in every forward gear, and other than 1st you said you had good engagement and it would run through the gears.

I am trusting and hoping we can get an honest read from this guy. I'm dying to know what he finds.

No problem, I will probably stop by at some point (next monday i hope) and ill ask him about that, as well as print off some points you have mentioned.

Youve been a lot of help too, heck i would of given up long ago! It was all worth it to, reverse is extremely healthy and it feels good knowing a bit more about how your transmission works and that you cleaned it out.

I'll keep yall up to date on this :D (I personally still think its the Larger o-ring in the low reverse servo).

I started it up once again today, and i havent heard any comments on this yet, but i moved it up the driveway (probably 100feet) and stopped. During having it in drive it
a: engaged just fine (vacume line off though)
b: would only go so fast, if you try to accelerate, it merely goes out of gear or moves just a tad faster. It feels like im losing pressure the second and extra pressure is applied.

Off it goes today, bout 8:00am, were impressed with how reliable this guy is (usually never have good luck, and still keeping our fingers crossed).

OK guys its been a bit, but i have an update.

Mom got the call today, and the verdict was all the clutches were fried. The fellow couldnt even get the truck into reverse when it got there. The clutches that are in it he has never seen in that transmission before (they were ancient). Im going to call tomorrow since he had a couple more questions but i wasnt around, i will ask for the old parts too.

Anyhoo thats all i know for now, its going to be done by friday.

Its back and working!

Its back, Saturday the parents picked it up and heres the verdict:

All the clutches were burnt (forward ones being the most damaged). By time he got the truck reverse wasnt even working.

He did a rebuild on it and its working great now. He also was impressed on how well i cleaned the valve body and how i setup the extra factory cooler.

The following 6 pictures are of the clutches, and then the seal which was believed to be the cause of the problem (rebuilt wrong before, chipped the edges of seal when it was installed). The clutches were pretty mangled, some are pretty crappy quality (i cant take close ups well) but you can get an idea of how bent and worn some of them are.

Anyhoo i was happy to find out we didnt ruin it, however the cost was the harsh part.

Thanks for all the help guys, hope this helps with the confusion on the problem.

Thank you for sharing..... another reason why I believe in using seal protectors in assembling trannies. But this was instructive, and good for you in the VB rebuild. You did well.

Thanks, i really didnt think I did that good, it was kinda nice to hear. I'm going to try and find out what company rebuilt it in the first place, i was told that with a seal chipped like that could allow way too much pressure through causing the clutches to wear out, or something along those lines, does that sound accurate?

Ill be back in about 30 minutes lol, parents just put the car in the ditch, i gotta bring the truck out and tow them out.
