Last weekend was driving along quite fine, the warning beep goes off and 'Check Transmission' comes up on the message display. O/D light flashing too.
Truck was revving in first up to about 3K RPM before it changes - into 3rd. Would change into 4th but no 5th.
Problem turned out to be an almost completely sheared o/d servo. Here's a photo:

Needless to say, a new servo completely fixed the problem.
Another more long-lasting problem I had was harsh shifting, especially from D to R. Had taken it several places, tried fluid changes, valve body gasket and other things without long term improvement.
The shop tested the solenoid pack and said that was faulty, that got fixed at the same time and the problem has been 100% cured - its never shifted this well in the 5 years I have had the truck.
If you are in S.I. NZ and have transmission problems, give Aceomatic in Stanmore Road, Christchurch a call - if my experience was anything to go by they will not disappoint you. Customer service and quality of repairs outstanding.
