My question is would the neutral safety switch not working cause the 4 lo to not engage? I have no reverse lights so Im pretty sure the switch is gone. But would that also cause 4 lo to not engage or am I looking for a different problem. $ hi works fine. Any help would be appreciated.

And yes I have searched and read for some time but havent seen this specific question answered. Thanks in advance

The reverse lights are controlled by the range sensor, and the fuse. The range sensor could be bad or misaligned. Since you're having a problem with the transfer case check the fuse panel to see if anything if blown out.

The brake lights are working fine and I have no problem w/ 4 hi. But I did check all the fuses just to be sure and there all fine. Could the range senor cause 4 lo to not engage. Any other suggestions?

I'm sorry for the misinformation about the brake lights. I was looking at a similar thread where somebody had a problem with their brake lights, and they couldn't shift out of park. The range sensor might be causing the problem with the reverse lights. It has nothing to do with the transfer case. The transfer case might have a problem with the shift motor.

Thanks for the info Brooklyn, Looks like im in the market for a shift motor. One more question though, wouldn't the motor affect both 4 hi and lo? or 4 hi could work fine and it not go as far as engaging the 4lo. Thanks again

It could get stuck in one setting, and not move. You might be able to repair it instead of replacing it. Check the sticky thread in the transmission section on the shift motor for more information.
