No crank, no start! Replaced ignition switch,no help. All lights on cluster come on have plenty of good power but no crank. Cleand terminals , no help. Explorer was in park at idle when it died. Tried to start it but no crank. Neutral safety switch seems ok. Tried crossing over at selonoid, engine will crank that way but no start..as summing no fire. If PCM failed would that not let you crank the engine?

Did you find a solution for this?

I had that issue on my white '97 4.0 SOHC and I replace the crankshaft position sensor and connector. It does matter which way the wires go even though it is only a two wire sensor. Rockauto has both parts and it only took 2 or 3 days to get the parts. You need to be able to solder and heat shrink the wires to do the repair.

IC. Maybe this will help someone else.

Will this stop it from even cranking? My serpentine belt shredded after the water pump bearing seized. The MAF sensor wiring got damaged and has been repaired but I can't see anything else damaged. The Crank position sensor looks fine but it was right in the firing line for bits of belt flailing around.
Now my car won't start, no crank, no start. I can't find anything in the start circuits that this would have impacted

I always check mega fuse under hood - make sure you get the proper amperage for your truck. Fi this fuse fails you will notice your alternator will still throw charge back to the battery, however the battery will not charge because the fuse is blown. This is different that the other big brightly colored plastic fuses. There is only one megafuse

Only some years have the mega fuse and a 01-05 trac is not one of them
Instead these trucks have fusible links in the main alternator charging wires. The mega fuse was on 95-97 trucks only I believe

First thing to ask when this happens is the theft light
Does the theft light go off when you turn the key to start?
If it rapid flashes then it is a pats issue
If it goes off then pats is happy with the key

Second question is does the check engine light illuminate when you first turn the key?

If it does then this verifies thy the pcm is powered up via the eec fuse, relay and sending power out to the diode and sensors via the red power distribution wire at the mas, injectors, etc

Next would be starter relay, check for power in, signal in from the ignition switch, and then jumper it out to test the starter cranks

Finally would be the natural safety,,, does the starter run in neutral instead of park? Is the column shifter loose? If the truck doesn’t know it’s in park or neutral the starter will never turn with the key

Of course the battery must be up and all connections clean and tight, corroded battery terminals are likely the numero uno cause of a weak or no crank

If the starter is turning then it’s time for the 50/50 test

Being sick for a few weeks has me watching a lot of YouTube mechanics videos lol
