hello guys long time lurker 1st post. I have a 2000 ex ohc 6cyl. 4x4 automatic.
I have reverse but no drive even when I try manually putting it in 1, 2 or D except when I put it in low 4x4 in 1st gear then it creeps along.
Now heres the history...
I bought it with 95,000 miles and currently at 165,000 miles. Always had the 2to 3 shift flare real slight at first then just gradually gotten worse depending how I drove it. Sometimes I would get a shudder or hard clunk Read about the valve body rebuild couple years ago when I found this site and almost did but refrained...
Couple weekends ago wife was coming back home from retreat and drove maybe 10 miles before stopping at gas station. she hopped back in truck and had no drive and notice a puddle of tranny fluid under truck...towed it home the next day and the next morning i hopped in put it in drive and went up & down my driveway in forward & reverse a couple times kept engine running and checked fluid it was barely registering on stick then went to try drive again and nothing but reverse still worked...hhmmmm??? Oh yaeh the OD lite did blink on her she said but has occaisionaly did it in the past also.
ok then came back to this site and ordered rebuilt valve body from 1800700. took the tranny bath...lol got everything switched over and still no drive...the old valve body gasket was gone in couple places as usual...
Now the old fluid didnt smell burndt but I had never changed it either so it was black.
The pan did have a couple small hard pieces bout 1/16" round and I could make them crumble with fingernail???? Maybe part of a band????
I have not cut open the filter yet so there could be more in there.
I also adjusted the bands but the front one didnt adjust at first it just kept turning so I stopped after maybe 3 full turns and no click from torque/inch lbs wrench set at 100 inch/ilbs first...so I left it tightened lock nut and put truck in drive and it moved real slow in drive and engine revved up to bout 3000rpm...ok then did the back one and it adjusted perfect and went back to the front one backed it off then adjusted it perfect. thought that was it but still no go in any forward gears.
Now when I put new fluid in it took 8 quarts...i did not have the engine running when I put 1st 4 quarts in...statred truck shifted thru gears and still no forward but still low on fluid...turned truck off and put 4 more quarts in and am now at the perfect level on stick but still no drive...
Did I need the engine running when filling up like I have read on here???
Could it be the shift motor?
I have no access to a good scanner I have one but it is a cheap one and dont pick up the tranny codes.
Im thinking of pulling out tranny and putting a used one in there and then maybe try rebuilding the one I pull out...but if theres anything maybe that I missed cause when it first got towed home it went into drive until it warmed up and hasnt gone into drive since which is weird....
Yes I did everything to speck with 1/4 torque wrench in/lbs.
I have read thru these forums but havent found the identical problem...close but not quite I guess. Any help would be greatly appreciated before I start might quest of tearing into it I guess, thx for listening...lol
