Hi all after 12 months I am booking in tomorrow ( Thursday) for a new valve body gasket, flush, new filter and refill. Been a bit hairy going down hill in snow, had to use a technique shown to me while on an off roading course in Aviemore using brake and accelerator together to maintain traction. Found an auto box repairer who did Frauds warranty work, will see if that cures it! Fingers crossed.

You only get engine braking in 1 not in D

Thanks Howard that's what I was using would work for first mile or so then nothing, low box same, some time ago Fraud did a recommended repair but mine was too old when I rang them, this repairers that I am going to did quite a few at the time.

for engine braking on mine i push o/d button so its illuminated on at all times and works well, but keeps you out of 5th when on motor ways, handy for slowing down on motorways too tapping it drops to 4th when slowing for junctions.

What happens when you go off road? will that hold on steep descents?

It was a ford TSB 03/22/10 on the gearbox symptoms no engine braking, rolling back on hills, sometimes no 2nd or 3rd gear, cure new uprated valve body gasket, filter and flush.

Hi Terry,
Would you know the part number for the new gasket?

I want to do mine but there seems to be so many different part numbers being banded about.

Thanks

Kev.

maybe i didnt explain it properly but yea thats what it does and keeps it locked (engine braking at all speeds)

Foiled not new valve body gasket, but a leak somewhere near the auto clutch system, poor guy could not give me a price without dropping gearbox out, worst case £1400 recon gearbox, not worked since Xmas so darent give him blank cheque, back to brake/accelerator method. hey ho

Thanks Terry/ Chris.

I'll do some more research on what you've said.

I'm after the new 'bonded' type gasket.

I just no that if I go to Fords they'll stand there with a blank face.
