First off, Hello all, new to the forums, brought here cause I am at the end of my ropes and need some advice.
Here is the issue, wife calls one night, and after parking and waiting for our daughter, she goes to drive away but the rig wont move. She called a mechanic friend of ours and he had her do a few things, then told her that the transmission was shot, that there is an aluminum hub inside that breaks (who knows). So we loaded it up and brought it home. Few days later I found a '91 explorer that needed transmission work, they had purchased a transmission but it just had to be installed and they wanted 500$ for it. I thought I would purchase it all, put the tranny in my rig and then resale the 91 and make my money back.
Now we are a week later (give or take a week) and I have dropped the tranny out of my rig, and installed the new (used but new to me) tranny. Just finished today, but I have the exact same problem with this tranny, could be coincendence, but I think not.
One thing I did do, was I used my torque converter because the one on the new tranny was rusty, could this possibly be my issue, my torque converter is bad? How would I test this, or do I need to take it to a shop to test? Is there anything else I should be looking at? I read the sticky on troubleshooting transmissions but it seemed all greek to me, how do I check pressure, is there somewhere to hook up a pressure gauge?
Appreciate all and every comment, and thanks in advance
