No heat inside explorer- stuck damper?

No heat inside Explorer. My damper may be stuck? There is heat to the heater, but it doesn't get inside. I have the automatic hvac system. The ac works ok. The fan works ok. I just got one of those aftermarket manuals, but it does not address my problem. Any ideas?

do a search on blend door actuator. hate to say it, but that may be your problem

It is either the blend door actuator or the actuall blend door.
My actuator had a broken gear. For the 2001 EB with Automatic A/C only the Ford actuator worked (the Dorman ones where not compatible with EATC).

The hard part is to remove the actuator from under the dash - one of the screws is tucked way back and I had to cut an 8 mm S-type wrench to be able to take it out.

I have the same problem. The wife was driving my 2004 Explorer 4.6 SOHC and the heat was working one minute and then it stopped working. We flushed the heater core but there was no blockage. We check the temp on the radiator hoses, top was 137 degree's and bottom was 87 degree's, then checked the heater core lines against the firewall in the engine compartment one was very warm and the other was just warm. The inside when I change the temp and the heater positions we hear a noise like they are working.
A/C works fine. We are going to change the thermostat Saturday. I do not know why is is not putting out heat, everything works and the temp guage has not gotten any hotter and maybe just a hair colder on the dash.

ANY IDEA's what to check and how???? Thank you in adviance for any replies

Like it was said above, it may be the blend door or the blend door actuator. The door has a really cheapo plastic hinge that's prone to breakage. Check this thread: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=183742 for a possible fix.

After checking the actuator which was OK, I did the bottom cutout and the old door just dropped out. Ordered the blend door kit from RockAuto.com and good as new for about $15.

Heater problem solved and working-many thanks

Thanks to you guys, and all the info on this great web site, I now have heat. My activator for the damper door was not working. I removed it and now can open the damper or close it by turning the top of the hinge square slot. I don't even have to reach inside the casing. The top of the hinge slot is held open by duct tape. To change to closed position, I just remove the duct tape turn the door hinge slot 1/2 turn and tape it back in place. As it is getting colder here in Massachusetts, this is just in time !:d

I lucked out and it was the heat exchanger valve in the engine compartment. Boy that sure saved me some time.
