No high beam help plz

ok so i checked everything. all of my fuses and relays are good i checked driverside dash, under hood by battery, and under air cleaner. and i have a new pair of headlights. so i am stumped. i dont know what else could possibly be wrong.
2000 explorer xls. no electrical mods other than a second kinetik battery in the rear. (one under hood and one in rear) they worked a year ago (inspection) when i removed the lights to reinstall my H.I.D. kit. so i dont knwo what is wrong. help guys please

High beams can receive power through two paths.

First is through headlight switch (when turned on) and then through multi function switch (either momentary or constant).
Second is directly through multifunction switch (if headlights are not turned on).

Do high beams work either way?

I'm having this same issue with my 2005 XLT. No high beams at all. Any help would be appreciated.

I would say dimmer switch also known as multi function switch.


And I know it sounds silly but make sure the high beam side of the bulbs are not blown,they tend to go one at a time so you don't notice the first one then...no lights.

My guess is multifunction switch. Mine stopped working on occasion, but my highbeams were fine. I bought a new multifunction switch (after the guys on this site said that was probably the case)...my wipers were also randomly coming on, which further suggested the multifunction switch. I was tearing apart the column cover to replace the switch when I discovered you needed a torx head screwdriver to remove the switch...which I didn't have on hand. Put everything back together and lo and behold the headlights started working!!! I'm sure that the switch was moved during the column cover removal which magically "fixed" it. I'm going to eventually replace it, but will let it ride for now.

Yea the 2000 I just bought had one of those deals with the drivers headlight,tap on it and it comes on.I was in the process of moving the battery to gain access to it and when I touched the wiring harness it came on.

5 mins later goes out,tap the light and it stayed on.Luckily I have a set of spare bulbs if that's what it turns out to be.

Thanks. I'll check into the multi-function switch. That's one thing that didn't cross my mind. I know the bulbs are good (at least they are new).

I have a 2011 Explorer Limited. I too have no high beams. Had the dealer look at it, they said to change the multi function switch. I informed them that I had already completed that repair with no change. They then told me to change the headlight control module, the service rep stated that is what the manual says. First the multi function switch, if that does not work, then change the headlight control module. - I love how even the shop manual tells them to throw parts at it. - My problem is, I am having trouble finding a headlight control module. Even the dealer parts house said " I think this might be it." Boy the confidence they are giving me is overwhelming.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
