so i been drivin around with my transmission bein like this for atleast 6 months now, finally got some extra money an time to fix, now i just need to make sure that i purchase the correct parts for my problem. i have an 02 xlt, so im pretty sure that means its a 5r55w, but first to second shifts fine, 2 to 3 is good, 3 to 4 can be a hard shift sometimes, and 4 to 5 it just tries to shift then "bounces" back to 4 an tries to shift again until the overdrive light flashes. i think that i need a new solenoid block, and was gonna get one here http://www.800700tran.com/prod.itml/icOid/159, but is this all i need or all i should get?? should i replace some other stuff while i am in there? it has 120k miles, and i doubt any transmission work, i haven't atleast and i had it since 80k. i get horrible gas mileage also, hopefully this fix will help that. i get like 15-17 city

I'm very interested in the response to your question because I have pretty much the same problem, but not as severe, yet.

My '02 XLT does shift into OD most of the time. Actually, with the truck empty is not noticeable. The problem occurs with some load at highway speed, exactly as your described it.

Get the trans code read, as for the gas millage sounds about average for city driving
