Ok guys my a4ld is going in tomorrow (under warranty) because it has no passing gear and the other day after about a 50 degree change in temp it would not engage for a minute and im sure that it was just due to the drastic change in temp. I decided to bring it in because I only have about 800 miles left on the warranty so I dont want to get screwed. Anyway What might cause this to happen?, not the slippage but the no passing gear? I want to atleast have some kind of idea to see what the shop is going to say , Thanks in advance, Jon

What do you mean by a passing gear? There is no upshift from 1-2? If that is the case, and only acts like this when it is cold, then it is probably a sticking governor. Which transmission shop did you get it from? How long ago was it rebuilt? How many miles are on the rebuilt transmission?

I assume you are talking kickdown. There could be a cable adjustment issue, otherwise kickdown is controlled by the kickdown valve in the valve body.... it is pretty straightforward and I am not familiar with issues there. I'd be looking at kickdown cable adjustment. May be as simple as that.

Brooklynbay, I know all to well about that issue and thank god this isnt it lol. I have yet to have any issues with that in the 18 month 18,000 mile warranty period.
Glacier I was hoping you would chime in, when I say passing gear I am talking about when you are on the highway just say, and you lay on the gas and it almost feels like the truck drops and takes off with a nice kick. If thats kickdown I dont really know but thats my issue. Thanks for the info thus far, Jon

I should also include this tranny was a rubild with "new" case not the previous case, master rebuild kit, shift kit, and is no longer cooled through the radiator but is directly to the new after market cooler with new lines and updated planetarys. The fluid and filter were replaced in October at about 9K miles after rebuild, not because of any issues, but because I need this one to last being its number 5 in the vehicles history at 148K.

Your fluid level on the dipstick drops when it is cold. Maybe it was a little too low when it was really cold. Check the level when it is completely cold, and when it is fully warmed up, and compare the difference.

I chalked the slipage to the cold and it was fine after it warmed up for about 15 min and it was parked on level ground in my driveway. However the other issue has been like this for a while and doesnt change reguarless of hot or cold. But thanks for the idea.

I'd have the kickdown cable adjustment checked.

as of right now the only fluid im leaking is PS fluid lol but when warmed up the fluid level was good, but thanks for the idea, Im not going to get into checking right now as its late, and I have to be up at 6 am so I can get a ride back from the shop( My mom works in Coney Island) near the shop, so Im going to drop it off at 7 and then drive her to work and take her car.I just wanted to get some Ideas so I could sounds some what educated when talking to the guy at the shop. This shop hasn't done me wrong yet but I am always careful not to sound like I know absolutely nothing about transmissons. Thanks for the advice guys I will see what happens and post my end result when I hear from them tomorrow.
Thanks, Jon

Ok brought the truck in by 7 and it was out by 10, they said all it needed was a kickdown cable adjustment (good call Glacier  ) and that everything else was perfect , the fluid was good, still very red. I think the guy may have took slack out of the gas pedal or something it feels alot quicker to respond. I dont know if this makes any sense or if im just imagining things that I want to feel lol.
