Noises

Hey guys I got a 98 sport and it’s making a few odd noises. First off it makes a rattle noise right before it shifts. its coming from the engine compartment but I’m lost for ideas. I thought it was the cat that was doing all the rattling but its not. Next when I turn the wheel while stopped or moving slow it makes a vibration noise like metal on metal. Is there anyway to grease the steering? And last the cat cover on this thing rattles so bad I was wondering if I could take it off or any tips to stop it from rattling???? Hey Doug. I had/ have the same problem with my 98 sport. the guys at ford put in some power steering conditioner and didnt do a thing to help. they also said its probably the rack going bad. hope that helps. mike
