I'm not sure which engine you have, but both my old 1993 4.0 and my 2000 5.0 idle between 600 and 750 RPMs.

A V6 in 1996 would be the OHV.

Mine idles at 900 rpm at least, sometimes near 1000 rpm...
When i cleaned the MAF sensor, i forgot to put a little metallic plate back of the maf, with those torx screws, and the truck was idling at 800 or 750. I put again that plate and my 900 rpm comes again. Im gonna try to drive without that plate....

My V6 96 Idled at 750 when warm. The new 02+ V6's seem to idle at about 500. This all assumes the tach is calibrated.

Mines in the 750 range. When it's cold it gets to about 1100, then settles back down.

Idles are sometimes different from say park and driver or neutral and reverse.

Spec idle is 650-700 rpm on a warmed-up OHV 4.0. If you get more than that in a warmed up truck then something is wrong.

My '92 is right around 750-800 RPM, if the dashboard tach is anywhere close.
