I know this is an explorer fourm, but i haven't got any help over at the acura/honda forums. Besides my exlplorer, i have an '86 Acura legend with a DOHC V-6. It runs good except for two problems. One is the engine clicks when running. I think it is a lifter that is sticking, but i am not sure. The clicking increases when the rpms increase, so that is my reason for suspecting a lifter or valve. Any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix it?

My other problem is that for about three months now, when i put the car in nuetral and park, the rpms jump about 1,000 rpms, then drop back down, then back up again until i cut the car off. The jumps are in about one second intervals. I popped the hood and looked around, and noticed that while it jumps, the throttle cable does not move, but the engine twists in the car, like it is generating a lot of torque. I am hoping that it is just a dirty part, but once i saw the motor twisting, i am fearing a bad transmission or something expensive. any thoughts or suggestions would be a big help.

About the tapping nois, is it kinda soft or loud and hard, so to say. All of my hondas that i have ever had, 89 civic, 91civic, 93 civic, 96 prelude and 97 acord all had the 'taps' regardless of what i did. i think it is just the characteristics of the honda motor itself, that is if it is a sorta soft tap, and yeah it is where the cam and the valves come into contact. Now as far as the tranny goes, i have no idea there

the tapping noise is loud, it sounds like a diesle. My dad says it is because the previous owner ran it without oil for a period of time. I was hoping i could fix it somehow, but i have no idea what to do.

Uh, all I can say, is if the previous owner let it run w/o...
1. I'm amazed it's still running
2. it wouldn't surprise me if it's on it's last leg

ok, well i finally got in touch with the dealer, and the guy said that it is the motor mounts. could this be the problem? I don't see how the mounts would cause the engine to rev, but i am not an expert.

How many miles are on the car, and have you ever had a valve adjustment done on it? It sounds like they have become loose, which is normal, and it's time to re-adjust them.

If it has high miles it might be about time for another factory specified tune up (i think they are about every 80k miles or so for hondas...maby sooner but it's been awhile sence I've worked on one).

As for the hi revs at, what is susposed to be, idol....sorry no clue...but it does sound like a tranny problem.
