Yep, I blew the positive side terminal clear outta the battery! I was jump starting a car 30min from school, and i turned my truck around and my cd player fuse blew! So, I pull it out to make sure no loose wires... all is fine. Well, my cdplayer 12volt wire is on an external fuse box added on the truck. It goes to the side post along with my alternator cable! So, my truck managed to drive 30mi on the battery alone, still has some juice in it (dunno if it'll start tomorrow) But I saw the post and the threaded part where the post screws into completely blown out! Well, it's a yellow top optima... So what's the warrenty on them?
Website?
Thanks
Pete

P.S. Pics should be up in a week once i get home

Optima

RFR2212,

Well I hope your experience is better than mine. I fried a cell in my 6 Mo. old Optima at Truckhaven 2002, this Jan. I took the battery to my Dealer, a parts store that also has a well known OR racing team that runs SCORE buggies and Trophy Trucks. They said "sure no problem, the Optima Rep comes in tomorrow". When I went back, the owner apologized profusely, and said that the factory rep. refused to warranty the battery saying that it was obviously a charging system problem. Well, I and the parts store knew it wasn't (I had it checked right after the Optima blew), but the Optima Rep. still refused the warranty. This made the store owner so mad that they immediately discontinud carrying Optimas, and will no longer use them in their racing vehicles! Basicly, INHO, Optimas suck:shoot:

Well, it's been a kick ass battery thus far... I'm hopin (and with the shop I got it from, alot of hope) that they replace it... If not I might contact optima (worth a shot) directly... If not, who knows where I'll go fer getting another tough battery :(
Pete

I had a huge charging problem with mine. So much so that the battery went back to optima themselfs. After about a month of waiting the shop just ended up giving me a new one.

I have read that they are very sensitive to overcharging. I think 4 Wheeler mag. had an article a few years back.

This week I ran my secondary Red Top down to 4.9volts. The wire that kicks in the dual battery solenoid became disconnected and it wasn't being charged. I had wondered why my ham radios and ARB compressor weren't working :D Anyway, I reconnected the wire, let the battery charge off the alternator for about an hour then hooked it up to my battery charger overnight and all is good. In fact the day I pulled it from the charger I layed the truck over and needed to use the battery for winching duty without the trucks engine running. It had plenty of power and still works great.

I recently got a red top and it was drilled into me that for best life, Optimas should be run completely down and then slowly charged back to full, no 'quick' charges. This true?

Anyway, picked it up from 4wheelparts for $100 cause my Walcrap battery decided to leak overnight.

Actually the Red Top isn't supposed to be run fully down. It's a strting battery not a deep cycle. I guess I've just been lucky.

Well, it turns out, my warrenty is gone... so I'm hoping it'll work once the alt cable is reattached, and can get me my 250mi home from school... This is definately a bummer, and I've gotta find a different shop at home that sells em.
Pete

Update

I put my alt cable on the top post, and the battery had enough juice to get the truck going. It then slowly charged. Hopefully, I can make it home. The $hit shop where i bought the battery claimed only a 1yr warrenty from optima, but I've been hearing from multiple guys on RRORC, that their battery is 2yr replacement, then 5yr pro rated... I'm going to contact optima.. We'll see
Pete
