The O/D OFF light is flashing on my 98, SOHC, 4x4. The manual only says that if it happens to get it serviced but what service do I need to get done? The transmission fluid changed or what? If that's the case I'd rather take it some place cheaper than the ford dealer. Anyone have this happen to them and know what the fix is?

do a search on the member name tpalm
he posted a TSB that sounds exactly like your symptoms. I think your year range also. even though his was out of the TSB range for year, it was the fix for him. I am going to take my Ranger in Mon. for the same thing and take the TSB w/me
this could be it for about $60.

Thank you very much!! I will be heading over to the ford dealer first thing in the AM and see if I can get this thing fixed. It just seems like once it 50K it's one thing right after the other. Maybe I ought to just start leasing vehicles and owning them for only 30-40K before the problems start to set in. Thank again.

let me know how it works out ..

ah ha. i'm having the same problem. thanks guys

When my OD light began to blink they had to replace my tranny.

whoa this is weird, the same thing happened to mine right around 50,000miles....i had to get new servo rings i think parts were $24 but labor was over $200....ahhh great old Ford parts dep.

I had the O/D flashing for about four months.

It always happens on the highway between 50 and 55 MPH and most of the time when going up hill. Truck seems to stall at that speed. After having my Cam Position Sensor replaced along with the Cam Position Synchronizer I decided to get a transmittion oil flushed, so far so good.

I took mine into the dealer and the code turned up that it was the TCC needed to be replaced. Had it replaced (for a small fortune) and it has been fine so far.

My brain's running slow today.... TCC?? Please elaborate. Thanks!

Actually it was the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid. Sorry about that.
