Hi I have a 1995 aerostar AWD A4LD it has never failed me till going to church this sunday. It shifts good into every gear no sliping at all.BUT IT JUST WON'T GO INTO O/D AT ALL. I had a code test done and no bad codes was found they never drove it the fluid looks and smells good told to me by the shop. They told me they didn't know what it could be but it will cost me 850 dollars to find out and thoughts would really help please thank you

Welcome to this forum! There are several possibilities why it doesn't shift into overdrive. Start with a band adjustment, and see if it helps. You could test the overdrive solenoid through the 3 prong connector on the front corner of the transmission with an Ohmmeter. Does your cruise control work?

Cruise doesnt work. next prob LOL my O/D well the whole trans worked good till the morning I'm taking it to another shop tuesday morning but I have read so much about it i'm dizzy From what I read it just about has to be electric or a broke band or sevreo any more thoughts and thank you for your speed how do you test it

Do you have any problems with the ABS system? Since you have a problem with overdrive, and with the cruise control, it might be the sensor on the differential. This part is also used with the ABS system.

no prob with nothing no bad lights with nothing. The cruise button broke on the steering but the O/D has always worked after

The PCM sends a ground to the overdrive solenoid, so the problem could either be electrical (bad TPS, VSS or another sensor) or mechanical (bad overdrive servo, band, or internal transmission damage). What does this shop want to do for $850? Is it a transmission shop or a regular mechanic?

Budget Transmission they want to over haul it. What would cause it to work so good then nothing

I don't believe that they will overhaul it for this price. They may open it, then say that there is more damage than originally quoted. The bill might jump to $1,800. They inflate the cost of parts. I speak from experience. Shops always try to push for a complete overhaul. Do you have a torque wrench, and an Ohmmeter? Start with the band adjustment, and test the resistance of the overdrive solenoid. Additional tests should be performed on other parts such as the TPS, and the rear speed sensor. Start with one thing at a time. How many miles does it have?

I fig. that was what was going on it has 150,000 oil was always changed on time it was my dads when he died I got it the trans was redone at about 100.000 miles so theres about 50.000 miles on it
