OK guys, please give me some feedback.
We all know 1) what a pain it is to get to those O2 sensor clips when changing, 2) the Haynes manual says not to cut the wires, but no one has said why, I mean really.
My thought.
Cut the existing wire on O2 Sensor, cut just below clip on new one.
Getting a QUALITY, connector (not just 'caps') for these connections, attach securely to ends of spliced wires.
Remove old sensor, install new one, connect.
Tie wrap excess out of the way, but still accessable.
This seems too easy, has no-one tried this.????
'Can't cut the wires'
why?
'cause the manual say's so'
why?
'dunno, cause the manual says so'
please provide input.

O2 sensor wire

kps36,
I wouldn't do it just becaus the wires are exposed to the elemants. A little bit of corrosion could cause bad signals. If the clip you are talking about is the connector, You should be able to twist the sensor enough to get it out without the wires realy causing a problem and then locate it back by the fire wall and pull the whole thing up and disconnect it. Connect the new one and drop it back down through the same route. Dont for get to leave the plastic cover on the sensor until you get it down there. twist the sensor opposite of the way you screw it in. The wires should untwist as you are screwing in the sensor. I have a 91x and I just did the same thing last week. Thats what worked for me. Good luck!

I just did mine a month or so ago and yes it is a pain in the but to get the connections back on. Not rocket surgery though...
The small amount of "juice" amps & what have you, that go to the O2 sensor will probably be affected by a splice sooner or later and at $50. per why take the chance.
