OBDII code PO205

Well, I ran a scan on the 2001 Sport I just acquired because the engine light was on.

The only code that came up was PO205...injector circuit malfunction.

I have to get over this flu before I can determine the problem, but I know I should have power on one side and ground on the other.

Could it be a bad wiring harness or a bad injector?

The truck has 212000 kilometers on it and I am 100% stumped as to it's previous history.

H61 CHECK FUEL INJECTOR(S) AND HARNESS RESISTANCE

• Note: Refer to the PCM connector pin numbers in the beginning of this pinpoint test.
  Note: This erases Continuous Memory DTCs.
• Disconnected PCM. Note: Use the injector fault PID to determine the fuel injector circuit(s) requiring testing.
• Measure resistance between the suspect fuel injector signal circuit and the VPWR circuit at the PCM harness connector.

Is the resistance between 11.0-18.0 ohms?
Yes - REPLACE PCM. REFER to Section 2, Flash Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM).

No - GO to H62 .


H62 CHECK FUEL INJECTOR HARNESS RESISTANCE

• Disconnect fuel injector harness connector at the suspect fuel injector.
• Measure resistance of VPWR circuit between PCM harness connector pin and the fuel injector harness connector.
• Measure resistance of fuel injector circuit between PCM harness connector pin and the fuel injector harness connector.

Is each resistance less than 5.0 ohms?
Yes - GO to H63 .

No - REPAIR open harness circuit.


H63 CHECK FUEL INJECTOR HARNESS CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO POWER AND GROUND

• Disconnect PCM.
• Suspect fuel injector disconnected.
• Measure resistance between fuel injector SIG and VPWR circuits; and between fuel injector SIG and PWR GND circuits at the PCM harness connector.

Is each resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes - GO to H64 .

No - REPAIR short circuit.

the pcm tells the injectors when to open and how long to stay open based on a variety of sensor readings. the injector is just a solenoid controlled valve. so, yes it is very likely there's a wiring or injector problem. does the 205 code point you at a specific injector, or is it a general error? if it's injector specific you might try switching the injector's around to see if the problem follows (i know not that easy to do) and you'd better have some o-rings on hand, or you could try to verify the signal is reaching the offending injector with a meter or light.

Thanks a million. It is specific to cylinder 5.

Injectors are cheap enough, I may just replace all 6 just to say its done if it turns out to be one bad injector.

Looks like I got some fun to have if I ever seem to kick this flu!
