OBDII Codes *help*

Hey Guys,

I threw a check engine light the other day and received the following codes:

P0171
The PCM has determined that during testing, the fuel system for bank 1 was tgoo lean. (Bank 1 identified the location of cylinder #1, while bank 2 identifies the cylinders on the opposite bank)

Definition- Fuel trim bank one condition

Explanation- The powertrain control module uses the oxygen sensor to calculate the air/fuel ration of the engine. The computer has recognized a rich or lean condition on one engine bank only.

Probable Cause
1. If bank one and two codes set together suspect fuel pressure or MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor
2. Oxygen sensor defective
3. Ignition misfire-repair
4. Fuel injector problem



P0442
The PCM has determined that a small leak exists in the evaporative emission control system.

Definition- EVAP small leak/no flow condition
Explanation- The evaporative emission system is monitored
Probable Cause
1. Defective or loose fuel cap
2. EVAP canister or hose cracked-not connected
3. Purge or vent solenoid defective
4. Vacuum leak at engine



P0442

If it's running OK, I'd reset the codes. If the light comes back on, then you need to dig further. Sometimes, they can throw a false code. You can reset the codes with either the code reader, or by unhooking the battery for 10 min.

This has been going on 4 a while now. I reset the code it would come back in about 30 min. I replaced the gas cap and reset the code and it didnt come back for about 3,000 and now its back?

i replaced my spark plug wires and that took care of my P0171 codes...just FYI

I replaced my wires and sparks about 6,000 miles ago when i did a tune up. Thanks for the response.
