occasional transmission noise when in reverse.

I've had my X for a little over a month now. On three separate occasions it's made a winding/grinding noise when putting it in reverse. I'm not shifting while still in motion. I'm really good about coming to a stop before shifting and moving. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. thanks.

you may want to look for threads with 'shift fork' in them.

It may be the transfer case making that noise.

I agree. The transmission tends to get blamed for many transfer case problems.

I'd just like to add to also check the pinion because a whining gear set is one that is not properly aligned which means it might be a bit loose.
