So I have been battling this issue on hot days for about 3 years now, pretty much since I got my Explorer and the dealer has never been able to deal with it. It is something I have searched for with no luck and never experienced before so here goes:
Issue # 1) On hot days, say over 90, when I first start the car the AC is cold, really cold, but the engine sounds like it is underwater, or maybe a stuck vacuum tube. Originally if i had to accelerate, I may have heard a "pop" and then the engine sounds normal again. Now, no more pop but after 10 miles or so of driving it is back to normal.
Issue #2) Again on hot days, if I drive for some distance and turn the car off, say to go to the store. I can come back out and the air is again cold. But after a few minutes it turns hot, over 100 degrees at the vents. This will go on for some period of time before returning to cold. The AC light remains on when this happens but the air does smell damp.
My Ex is at the dealer again today to try and figure it out. Hopefully third year is a charm...
