Odometer not working

does anyone know if the odometer not working on my 97 would stop the display screen alluminating in the bottom of cluster?
 






Those are probably two separate problems: a broken worm gear on the odometer, and an illumination bulb burned out. Take a look at this tutorial on odometers and this tutorial on disassembling the instrument cluster. Be careful if you take it apart as it has some fragile components.
