Odometer/Trip Meter Ghosting

My odometer and trip meter are acting funky in my explorer. I notice that sometimes they are super bright, others it is fading/not bright, sometimes I notice it will completely turn off. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? Thanks in advance.

It will eventually go out for good. It's a cold solder inside the instrument cluster. There is a thread somewhere in here describing the points to resolder. I did it to my 02 after 3 years with no odometer. Relative easy fix if you know what to look for. Search for odometer fix.
