OEM grill preference? Explorer vs. Mountaineer

Since I am changing my headlights to new OEM ones at some point, I also considered changing my OEM grill from Explorer to Mountaineer. I snagged a nice Mountaineer grill from the junkyard for $17.

Just thought I would post a sample of both, and see what preferences EF'ers have.

I think I might paint the vertical bars black also...

It's just my opinion but to me the photo with the blacked out headlights reminds me of a big bug (beetle). I think the Mountaineer grille looks more refined than the Explorer. As for the black vertical bars in the grille to me one is as good as the other.

ditto. i own both an Explorer and 2 Mountaineers right now and i much prefer the Mountaineer grille and headlights. i also think the Mountaineers look bigger than my Explorer (there not of course) because they don't have the fender flares and that makes them look longer.

I own one of each. Overall I prefer the Mountaineer grill. My Explorer grill is painted flat black, I like it better then the factory gray plastic.

Well, no Limited grill option :shifty_ey

If I did have one, it would have to pry be painted to match. Color pry would be off enough to bug me. Maybe a darker shade of grey would work though.

+1 Really looked for one a while back. Even tried to buy one off a poster here. Now back to the poll here. I thought about swapping a Mercury grille because my daughter in law was getting trading her Mountaineer in. May have done it except there was no way to take the emblem off and just have a smooth grille according to my son. So between both the grilles with the emblems in place I vote Explorer....with a Billit grille. But that's just my opinion and I could be wrong

I think I prefer to have a Mercury Grill, but the Ford one on mine, where I blacked out the center, and left the chrome, looks really good.

I am just aching for one of those brush guards, but with an upcoming wedding and honeymoon, its gonna have to wait. As to the Poll... I like the Mountaineer grill, but want one with a Ford emblem in the center. Until I can have that, I'll leave the Explorer Grill in place.

Explorer in my opinion especially the Limited, but I am biased. To me, the Mountaineer one looks wrong for the vehicle and doesn't seem to fit it. Looks too bland and generic. The Explorer fits the vehicles way better and doesn't look like such a cheap knock-off.
