Seems I've reached a dead end in trying to get someone/somewhere to reprogram my factory nav system.

Came out of a 07 Explorer, I am putting it in an 06 Explorer.

Dealers don't seem to have a clue, they just say it don't work and never will work going from 07 to 06.

Help??

Thanks.

Not sure about the Explorer, but the difference in 06 to 07 in Mustangs was the way the speed info was provided to the radio, so perhaps it is the same with Explorers. Lots of guys have put NAV into older Mustangs and just accepted that the speed info doesn't come over. That only affects the speed-sensitive volume and the ability of the NAV to do "dead reckoning" when not enough satellites are visible. Without the speed info the map may jump from time to time as when passing through tunnels.

Dealers typically do NOT have the ability to program the radios, though. They send radios out to some regional repair shop and those typically have the equipment. Ask where they send the radios and call that shop...cost will be around $100, typically.

That said, You might just try the radio out and see what functions are already OK. If the button lights work and follow the dimmer control, if the sub woofer (if you have one) works, and if the steering wheel contyrols work, you may not need to do anything about programming.

Thanks for the detailed response. I'll check what you said and decide if I do indeed need to do anything.

dealer can program the radio to as build data, the problem is your as build is not for a navi unit. you would need as built of a navi unit.

did you buy this nav off of ebay... if so there is this guy that is reselling a navigation unit that was returned twice to him by two people who i manage to email them to find out if the guy was telling the truth out not and they got it checked out by the dealership and was told the navigation is broken but on his picture it almost looked brand new... i will try and find his username on ebay for those who are concerned
