What model year's grille will fit a 1999 Explorer? And, do you know of any good websites for finding a Ford replacement grille (someplace similar to what bumpers.com is for bumpers)? Thanks.

I think 95-00 grilles are all made the same way. I replaced my chrome grille with a black one because I thought it would look better. Since you have an XLT, it won't be terribly difficult to find a replacement. First thing I would do is contact Torrie at Ford Parts Network. You also might want to try the junkyards. Hope this helps.

Yep, I've seen them also. I'm thinking about getting one myself.

Is there something wrong with your grill?? If the silver part is the only problem, repaint it. That's what I did to mine and it looks awesome. The color I used was a GM paint, I don't know the code but the result was a dark dark British green metallic. It's very unique.

I was thinking about doing that, but there are two cracks in my grill. Maybe I'll paint the new one with that paint since my Ex is green too...do you have a pic? :D

The pics don't show very well, it looks more like black than dark dark green. But there're pics in my sigature. Check it out.

It looks very  Does the paint still look good?

There is nothing wrong with my XLT grille. I just think that one of the Ford body color grilles would look better.

Being that painting chrome can be a pain (etching primer, etc.), and I don't have painting equipment - I thought that I'd probably just buy a non-chromed (preferably body color) grille and work with it. If I ended up not liking the result, I could pop my XLT grille back in. Thanks for the responses.

It still looks great! It's smooth and shiny! Removing the grill is quite easy. If I remember correctly, there're 5 or 6 screws and a bunch of clips. Hope this helps, Al.

Yeah, just a couple of screws and clips. There are two screws on the sides and two sets on the top and bottom on the middle part. Light tugging will pop the clips loose.

I just a bought a grill and headlight trim from these guys for my 92 X off of eBay. They don't list grills on their website, but they are a part of "Bumper warehouse" so maybe if you call they can give you a price.

eBay link to what I just bought...

Their toll free number is at both links. Can't wait.... at least the parts are coming together for my makeover.:D

96explorereddiebauer, Hey I was wondering where you got that chrome exhaust tip for your explorer? How much was it? Did it change the sound? Better fuel mileage? How hard was it to install? Thanks a lot .

I have a Chrome Grill for 1997 Explorer and I am 99.9% sure it will fit a 1999 Explorer. The only problem is I had it on E-bay and someone won the auction, But they have not contacted me yet to make payment and give me shipping information. So if this person does not contact me with in a few days then I will have a Chrome Grill for sale.

It serves no purpose but to make it look good. It's $5 at Advance Auto.
