Well I was checking because my ABS check light came on and has been on for about a month, I was checking the front and rear ABS sensors, and front both checked out fine, between the 380 and 480 ohms or whatever it is on a 4x4, I have a '98 Ex 4x4 v6 SOHC, and I was messing with the back one, checked out bad and I busted the god **** tab off of the connector that connects to the ABS sensor in the back...after some mild cursing, and knowing that I have to probably go to the stealership to get the part, and install it, I decided to come here to see if anyone knows ANY other way I can get one. I thought I had lucked out too, since I found the RABS sensor at napa for $12...but now this...any other ideas? Also, I had some metallic shavings on the RABS when I pulled it out originally, should I change my diff. fluid?

I'd change the fluid regardless.. Ford said the fluid doesn't need to be serviced. I tend to disagree.. Don't forget to add friction modifier if you have limited slip. 75W140 for Limited slip and 80W90 for conventional open differentials About 5.5 to 6 pints or 2.75 to 3 quarts.

it would not hurt if you change the oil... at the same time you'll be able to see if there is a bigger problem in there (if you remove the cover). For the tab on the connector... can you alaborate? electrical? plastic? which is it?

Just a question can autozone read what the ABS code is?

If your ABS light flashes then more than likely no.. If its CEL light then yes.. Their scanners can only read certain P trouble codes & chassis codes from what I understand.

Sure Dre it is a plastic connector that plugs into the Rear ABS sensor (which goes into the diff.) I am thinking of going to a pull and save and just cutting off about 6" of wire along with the plastic connector, and splicing it in. And to AMMO, no, only the stealership can read the ABS codes to see EXACTLY what it is. You can, however, if you have a voltmeter, check the resistance of your ABS sensors (front and rear).

My abs light comes on when it is even a very tiny bit low on brake fluid, I fill it up with brake fluid, the light goes off again. :)

Hmm, I got the harness from the stealership for $10, not bad, and connected the new sensor. Now the light is on for the normal 3 seconds when I start the car, then it goes off. Then it comes back on after using the brakes 2-3 times...could it be that something else is wrong? Is there ANY way to self-test the ABS system for codes, instead of taking it to the stealership? Also, is it possible that I mis-wired the new harness? There were 2 wires, a green w/black stripe and a red one under the car, I'm assuming power/ground?! On the new harness, they were both white. Would that cause this problem?

Call your friendly ASE-certified shops. Anyone with an NGS tester should be able to read the ABS DTCs without any difficulty.

No, there is no way to scan them yourself... unless you purchase an NGS tester. (The cheapest I've seen them on Ebay is $1200)

No tester for me! And no Napa, Schucks, or Autozone has one...so I guess I'm on my own! Anyways, can someone show me in a picture exactly where to TEST the front abs sensors? I tested in the little one up by the foglights, and got an ohm reading of 0.440 or so, on an ohm-meter, does that mean POINT 440 or four hundred and fourty? If it's 440 I assume I did it correctly. If not, I guess I need to test the other end, where the actual sensor plugs in, and I need to know where that is :(...also, the back one, where do I test it? I guess I don't really know how to use the ohm-meter...I tested ON the actual sensor itsself, and also on the wires...either way it gives me a weird reading, and it's a new sensor and new wiring! I'm just stupid :( and don't know how to test I think. I've been reading too about the relays under the hood, is there also a FUSE under the hood for the ABS? Or do I just replace the relays? And how do I know if they are bad? I appreciate all the help, it is saving me lots of hassle and money I hope. You guys are great!
