I'm picking up a 96 explorer with a OHV 4L with a auto trans in it. at the moment, i know it needs a starter (the drive will not engage). i know i have 2 starters, one from a 00 SOHC and one from a 01 SOHC. when i look at them, they look identical to the starter that's in my 90 ranger (with a OHV and auto as well). i looked at the part numbers in rock auto, and they are different, but that might only mean that the wire to the solenoid would be different. can someone tell me if the 00, or 01 starters that i have will work, or bolt up to the 96?

When i did my SOHC swap in my 1996 I reused the starter off the old OHV. everything seems to be working fine so far. (I am running a 99 OHV flywheel though) According to autozone the SOHC has 138 Teeth on the flywheel and the OHV has 138 teeth, so technically the starter should work. (keep in mind that theese teeth numbers are for a Manual trans)
