My final words on the Ford 4.0L SOHC...

Personally I would not waste 5 minutes transplanting a 4.0L SOHC into anything. I'm now facing having to replace/rebuild the SOHC in my POS '01 Sport Trac and I'm seriously thinking about just scrapping it or parting it out. The worst engine Ford ever put in anything. In my experience there is nothing to like about this engine or its transmission. IMO anyone who prefers this combo over the 5.0 is delusional. We've owned 3 of these damn SOHC engines and they all sucked and none of them managed to make 200K.

Cons:
Poor engine reliability/longevity (timing chains)
Fuel economy pretty much the same as the 5.0L
Less HP & torque than the 5.0L
Weaker transmission than the 4R70W

Pros:
None

The SOHC lovers can keep replacing/rebuilding their engines and transmissions and telling themselves how great they are, but I just don't get it.

Sorry if this offends SOHC owners. If you own one of these and need to keep it on the road due to financial circumstances I understand that. Do what you have to do.

Very interesting, so it cant find the OHV cam sensor. I am quite surprised it is working. If you had access to an oscilloscope and a running OHV you could tap into the sensor and see what kind of feedback it was giving the ECU. Then you could try and imitate it. Another option is the Cam sensor on the SOHC, tap into it, and see the difference between the two signals, and convert it to function like the OHV signal. After that the post above is correct, the tables wont be the same so a custom map would be optimal. Either way this is a very interesting tidbit.

Sometimes it might just have to do with enharmonics :afro: man....

Man you hate that engine sorry you have had bad experiences with your shoc but that don't mean there aren't people who have had good experience with it the 5.0 is more reliable sure but finding one is hard I never said the shoc 5r55 was better than the 5.0 every time I mention this shoc engine you my friend get pissed and for that I'm sorry
