I have a 2003 v8 4.6L explorer and I just recently got my cylinder head done coz I oil and water mixing. It never had a problem overheating or anything beside the oil and water mixing, so I pulled them out and sent to machine shop and asked to do a leak down test to see if there's a crack. It turned out of my cylinder head was warp but no crack...so i got it resurface and put back everything.

Now, after 2 weeks of driving it, i notice I'm still loosing a bit of coolant and I'm still getting a milky residue on my oil cap. So i'm assuming the problem still therea and right now I don't know whats causing it since I just got my head done. Also...since I bought the car I noticed everytime I step on the gas a bit harder, I hear water flowing that sounds like a water fountain underneath the dashboard on passenger side....is that normal??? especially when I take off from stop and also you can hear it more when you just started driving the car in the morning.

The water sound might be a leaky heater core... especially after saying you had a warped head... must have gotten pretty hot...

if you didnt get all of the moisture out of the oil when you cleaned it out, it will still have condensation in the block... could be the source of your milky residue... otherwise Id check the block and heads for cracks. (flux them)

Actually it never overheated before or at all. Today I flushed engine oil and just put a new set and hoping its just a residue let off. The cylinder head is good coz my machinist did a pressure test on both of them and he said no cracks...but loosing coolant part, i'm still trying to figure out. I'm thinking if its possible to have a coolant leak on intake manifold and it goes to my cylinder and that causing my milky residue???

Yup Very possible. highly likely if the block and heads are known good.

No Problem :salute:

thanks...i'll pull out my intake and see

Hey invisible... just wanted to ask, did you ever figure out the source?

I'm currently experiencing the same type of thing... I drained my oil out of the pan and it looks fine, but I have a milky residue on my oil cap and filler neck.

actually i haven't worked on it yet coz all the past holidays, but i'm going to pull out the intake and see if there's a coolant going into my oil next week and i'll keep you update.

Any new news?

I today discovered the same thing in my 2003 4.6. Got the oil changed today and there was milky oil on the oil cap. There has been the water fountain sound under the dash, but it goes away when I top the water off, and the heat works also. The oil was fine when it was drained.

It is losing water somewhere, at a very slow rate, but still losing. Since november, I have only topped the water off twice, that is with a whole lot of driving, before then, I never added water to it until I was trying to figure out why my heater doesn't blow hot, that was after almost two years of owning.

Hey did anyone ever find the source of this problem? Having exact same problems
