So I had the oil change light go on at 3000 miles so I changed the oil. I am now at 7000 and it still has not come back on. Is it not supposed to come back on at 6000 miles? Or when does it go back on?

Driving conditions have changed and it looks at different variables.

OK a variation of this...

I can not get my "Change engine oil soon" message to stop coming up after each start. I have "held" the reset per the on screen display and the oil life was reset to 100% after the change, but the stupid thing won't reset.

I had the oil changed by the dealer, go figure and now this dumb message, guessing i will have them clear it.

I am not positive, but I think there are 2 things to reset, the oil life to 100% and another to tell the system you changed the oil.

You are correct, what won't seem to reset is the one that the oil WAS changed  i am at 13k miles, first time for this issue.

OK so in the "system check" in the spot to "press reset if new oil" the simple pressing of reset won't work, but push it twice quickly.... will

So would you guys recommend just changing it every 3000 or go by the light. I did notice that it was at like 23% last time i went into the menu and looked. Not to mention the high school kids that do the oil changes for the ford dealership that i bought the truck didnt know how to reset the light in the first place.

Aaron,

I was under the impression that when you reset the oil indicator it simply sets the clock for 5000 miles and does not take type of use into account, I could be wrong. There is an option in the system to set the oil life at less than 100% after an oil change. My thought would be that on the first interval your oil life was reset mid cycle and the second time someone did reset the oil life but to less than 100%.

I personally am going by Fords rec of changing the oil at 5000 miles but never go more than 4 months before a change. I am using full synthetic just because many of my trips are only 5 miles and the detergent in the syn is supposed to be better. When I do tow alot or have heavy use I change the oil sooner.

i tend to have the oil changed around the 4-6k mile range.

I just purchased an '06 for my wife and the change oil light was on when I bought it at 43 miles. After reading the manual, it sounds as if the computer looks at mileage and time. If 5000 miles are not recorded at 6 months, The message is displayed also. I have to admit, it took me about a half hour of reading the book and plating with the controls to get the message to go away. Seems that the people that write the manual could do a better job of explaining how to reset things. ( I also was a little dumbfounded at not being able to find transmission dipstick)
