Oil Change Recomendations

I noticed in my manual that Ford suggests an oil change every 5000. Also with synthetic they say 5000.

What do you recomend?

Regular oil or synthetic

3000 or 5000

I use Synth and change every 5k. Did the same with my '92 and the motor was still in excellent conditon when it was wrecked in '01. That motor is now installed in BigCheck's truck and still running well.

regular or synth

I use Mobil Drive Clean Blend and the Ford FL1-a filter every 5K. Used to use Mobil 1 on both my trucks, but got tired of paying $50 to change both trucks. From everything I've read and heard, synth is the absolute best. However, numerous tests including Consumer Reports all show that regular oil does just fine and no difference between the two is realized. The one thing mentioned is that synth might give you better protection in weather extremes ( Canada or South Texas), Towing, or if you go over the 5K mark often before changing your oil. I would add serious off-roading to that list also. I have noticed no difference going from full synth to synth blend myself, other than saving $30 every time I change the oil on my trucks! Bottom line IMHO, Do what you want and spend how much you can afford.

Remember, with synthetic oil you CAN go longer, much longer than 3-5k between changes with no difficulties.

Take a look at this thread Dead Link Removed In it you will find oil analysis data for extended intervals.

If the price of synthetic is the issue, extended intervals quickly negates that reason.

Synthetic is my vote too. Can't go wrong for the extra protection and piece of mind!

I agree, synthetic is the way to go.

Personally, I change my Mobil 1 every 5,000 miles.

as a motor vehicle industry standard ( i work at a shop) we recommend 3000 miles with regular oil.... 5 if synthetic...remember, we are trying to sell oil changes, but generally those are good times to change your oil.... i have about 7k on my synthetic right now... but am not too worried about it, ill change it when i get a chance
