Ive run into a problem with the engine oil filter adapter coming loose, and causing the engine some pretty serious damage. The oil was change about 1000 miles ago. One shop said the filter and adapter plain out just came loose and fell off. Has any one had this happen?

i assume you're talking about the nipple that the oil filter screws onto? if so, yes i had one come loose on me once on a then new '71 Road Runner.

i suggest you clean the oil off the nipple and the threads and then re-install it with Red Loctite.

I don't think he needs to fix the filter adaptor anymore...

BTW, what engine was that? On 5.0L it's a 90 deg adapter with cooler. It gets bolted on the block:

The engin is the 4.0 v6. Really reliable

Yes the adapter the filter bolts on to the engine that the filter spins on to

4.0L V6 comes in two variants. SOHC and OHV.

I've had it come off with the filter on a Dodge 5.9 many years ago. Just last week I had to remove the one on a 6.0 GM v8 and chase the threads after using the wrong filter (correct part number but the filter had sae threads while the adapter had 22mm threads whoops) I reinstalled it with blue Lock Tite just to be sure.
