Oil filter bracket leaking

I have an oil leak where the oil filter assembly attaches to the engine I think its an o ring but not sure could somebody please verify this and also lmk how hard it would be to fix it the mechanic shop said it would cost $250 to fix it so I wanted to see if I can fix it my self before I had them do it. thanks in advance.

$250? Maybe for a new adapter and the labor to remove the old one, install the new one, and do an oil change in the process?

Is the leak definitely coming from the adapter/engine block junction, or might it be an oil leak from higher up (cylinder head, perhaps?)..because, the adapter should be easily removed from the block if thats where it's leaking. If you have the tools, it's pretty doable. You could probably buy the tools and parts and do an oil change for a lot less, plus you get to keep the tools.

No it was $250 just for the gasket oil change and labor they said it was alot of work I checked above the filter everything looks clean. When I start the car you can see it leaking right where the assembly meets the engine. I have lots of tools is there a special tool for the job or will a stuby wrench work since it looks really tight.

I'd think any wrench that will fit on the bolt holding the adapter to the block would work. You might want to swing by the dealer and get the gasket first, plus they might have an adapter assembly so you can check it out and compare your old one with in case it's somehow damaged and not just a gasket problem.

Might be a tight fit and take you some time and maybe some scraped knuckles getting the job done, but a few dollars and a DIY oil change sounds a lot better than $250 for someone to do the same. Plus you'll know the job was done right and you'll get to use those tools.
