Oil Gauge Problem..

I think I found a problem with the Explorer.. *sigh*

Every time I'm braking.. the oil gauge will drop completely for a second and return back to normal.. it has happened multiple times.....

Figured it out. [I hope] Bad grounds on the HIDs were causing problems, that's my conclusion]

I was eating a juicy nectarine and smiling at my wife-the juice running down my chin and dripping on the leather seat-when BUMP! My nectarine flew out the window-
I looked out, we were in my truck, but it wasn't the same-
it had 50" tires, and a blower with a huge oxygen mask on it.

Is this an oil leak?

I don't see any on the ground, I just poured two bottles in.. nothin poured or dripped out.. Drove around and checked again as all the oil settled...
idk!

Update: Hour later.. checked on it... no oil on the ground..... [Keep in mind, this is after pouring two bottles in, driving it for a little bit...]
Uhm.. There's a tiny lil dot of oil on the dip stick.. wtf is goin on... im running outta ideas...

I suggest going to a service station and having ur oil changed ASAP. It sounds like you're really low and your oil pressure gauge drops because when you stop the oil may move off the sensor for a second, then pops back up when it goes back on the sensor and you have pressure.

How's the engine running otherwise?

Drain the oil pan and change the filter. Then add 4 or 5 quarts (whatever the correct amount is) and check your dipstick. See if your oil pressure gauge is acting normally after this.

Just adding random amounts isn't going to tell you much. You don't know where you are starting from....besides, you need an oil change anyway. You should check your oil frequently and add if necessary. My older 5.0s burned about a quart every month (1500 miles or so).

The oil leak looks like a rear main seal leak. Very common on high mileage 5.0L engines.

Is that an actual leak? How do I fix it? I don't see any oil at all on the ground, here or at work where I park..

Could some high temp silicon fix this issue if it is a leak?

Those pictures are toward the front of the engine... uhm.. The first thing I'm going to do is get it changed and have them look at it.. any other information you might be able to give me?

Just keep adding to it until you get paid. Check it every day before you start it.

Rear main seal is a PITA, you've got to pull the trans, the flywheel, the oil pan, the main pulley, etc.

In the mean time, check that leak to see if it is indeed oil. That could be antifreeze that leaked from the lower intake gasket. I can't tell from the picture what color it is.

Btw, I just got my oil changed... uhm.. they said they didn't find any leaks and the gauge issue is most likely caused because of the low oil....

As for all my oil disappearing, they said it's prolly getting burned or if I'm hard on the truck, it prolly is getting sucked through the PCV **** n getting burned..

you have a broken nut or gasket somewhere under there that is just sipping out oil faster than your engine can lube it you need to that looked at pronto i mean ASAP talk to the parents if you have too...

Uhm, yea.. "parents" are outta the picture.. I own this truck, I pay for the insurance, maintenance, and Mods.. This is all on me.

You sure this is a leak? The people at quick lube didn't find a leak...

Good to hear you changed the oil and figured out the oil pressure problem. Now just keep an eye on it!

Looks like its been leaking something for quite awhile. Not sure how they can claim there are no leaks. May not be pouring out or constantly dripping, but there is wet crap everywhere!

From those new pics, it looks like the front cover or oil pan gasket leaking. Or you were really sloppy when filling the oil. The stuff on the steering lines looks like it dripped from above. Still can't tell what type of fluid though. Dab a white paper towel on the wet stuff and show what color it is. Just try not to pick up too much of the dirt and grime.

Then get some engine degreaser and a wire brush and clean the engine really well. Takes alot of effort, not so much $$. You'll get a much better idea where any new fluid is coming from after its clean.

Uhm.. because of the dirt that's kicked up everywhere.. specially since all the snow is melting.. all of it is gonna look brown..

I'll keep an eye on it though, would it be safe to take a pressure washer n hose that bottom area?

I wouldn't...^^ how about put a bucket under there so you can see exactly how much is leaking over a nights period while you sleep maybe a mechanic could figure what it is by how much leaked out if you showed him the bucket...
