I have a K&N Cold Air kit on my X. I was cleaning the filter the other day and I noticed that the bottom part of the filter, facing the road not the sky, was really dark and dirty. Taking a closer look I noticed a trace of oily residue leading back past the MAF and into the intake pipe.
When I installed the kit there was no place to connect the breather hose that comes from the valve cover so I made one. Could this be where the oil is coming from? My factory pipe, filter and box have no such concern.
