I am hoping one of you has run across this, I cannot identify what this part is. To the right of the throttle body (driver side) is a metal block (brown in color) with two metal tubes coming out. One of the tubes has a hose crimped onto it that runs over toward the driver side wheel well. The hose has a 'half coke can' attached to it and wrapped in black foam. This hose runs over top a smaller hose and actually touches it. Where they touch I am finding oil gathering in that spot. The hoses have no holes so I suspect the crimped part is leaking.

Does anyone know what this is?

Sounds like an A/C hose if it has foam on it- the coke bottle thing you refer to must be the spring lock connector.
Does it come out of the throttle body? Or does it come off of the compressor? If it comes from the compressor than its the A/C hose. Your hose assembly may be bad. I paid about 500 to have mine replaced. Its not something that can be done at home very easily.

Steve,

It is coming from something that is belt driven. Is that the air compressor? If so, could you explain how the oil circulation works there...just out of curiosity.

The leak does not appear to be big, but I will keep an eye on it. Thanks!

Yea thats the Airconditioning Compressor if is belt driven. A/C is something I dont mess with. I do know that there is a small amount of oil that circulates through the system to lubricate the compressor, and when it leaks out it usually attracts dust and such so you find it around the fittings and junctions. I think if too much escapes you can ruin your compressor. I would havbe it checked, may just need new o-rings at the connections and a recharge.

Sorry I cant be of more help, but thats one area I leave to the pro's - it takes some special tools and there is only so much this weekend mechanic can do.

I would suggest the FSM for more detail on the system, its a couple of chapters that Ive never really looked at.

Good Luck
