oil pressure and temp gauge low

when I start my 2001 explorer, the "check gauge" light is on, and the oil pressure and temp. gauges are at their lowest setting. If i leave the car running for about 10 minutes, or after i've been driving about that long, they correct themselves.

why does this happen? do i need to worry about this?

well if I were you I would definitly check your oil level !!! like right now !
