Ok I just recently changed the oil on my explorer and it has a check gauge light on the dash and the oil gauge is not Working upon start up. Any suggestions?

Could have installed a defective oil filter. Try replacing that first.
I don't think so. I have a motocraft fliter on there now.

I said "defective". As in manufacture bad. It happens even with motorcraft.

I assume the oil level on the dipstick is ok.

Ok yeah you are correct about the dipstick.

I’d change the filter, just in case something in there is jacked up, as mentioned above.

Check the oil pressure sensor connector. If that checks out, and you have an oil pressure gauge, pull the sensor and thread that puppy in before your next start.

The sensors do go bad (I had one go on my SOHC and I almost shat myself) but that would be one hell of a coincidence for it to happen in conjunction with an oil change...

I know some people will fill the oil filter with oil before screwing it on, kind of like priming a pump before you start it. Maybe an air pocket?

So try tightening it?

So try tightening it?
just get a new one and try it. screwing it tighter will not help. Something in your oil passage is clogged, most likely the filter since you just changed it. 3 bux man, geez.

If that does not fix the issue, then dig deeper into the wiring to the sensor.

Your original post indicates everything was good, you changed the oil and bamm, the gauge went south.
Now muddle that in your head for a minute.

It must have been something new that did this. Not everything "new" is " good". new stuff fails inside it's box sometimes.

Please try a new filter , if not just to shut me up.

Bottom line - yep...

A buddy of mine used to say "It's a malfunctioning canafle pin installed with a left handed screwdriver!", meaning something got messed up and it needs to be redone.
