I know that there are a lot of mixed feelings on the different types of oils. Syn/Petro. based oils. I was wondering what yalls opinions are on syn blends. Like Valveline's Durablend. I have talked with a couple of guys that use it because they like to chang there oil regularly, but like the benifits of Syn. I us Durablend for those same reasons and change my oil and filter between 3500-4500 miles. I like to see condition it is in.
and the nice warm feeling that comes when you know your kids are running with fresh oil in there systems. It is like health food or something.
Anyways have fun with this one.

The problrm with blends is that they are not required to have X amount of synthetic to X amount of petro.

Most have less than 5% synthetic.

I recommend full synthetic.

Take a look at the following thread.....Dead Link Removed

I dont like Valvoline or Pennzoil

All this marketing BS about, specially formulated for hot summer months, 4x4's only, and high mileage engines is a bunch of hooey!!!! Just a marketing ploy, I dont like that so I stay away from their oils. Castrol and Mobil are the only two oils I would ever use, and only full synthetic goes in my baby, every 3-4K miles.........

Just my 02 :)

If you are using full Syn. Why do you change it every 3-4K miles? In College, I took an Auto. Engineering class (for an elective) and we did test on different types of oils and lubes. Syn. came out on top, but with syn. you don't need to change you oil but like every 8-10K milles, just the filter. Due to the fact that they don't break down.

Oh and for new Truck, it isn't good to put Syn. in until the it has "seasoned" I plan on going with full syn with my Ranger the next oil change, but I got my X with 30K on it and will kept using the blend.

Oh and Valveline is a very credited Oil, it fared very well with our test, and I use it because if did fare well and is easy to get. Amsoil syn. was the best. ( the test was bascily a heat test with a machine grinding a piece of soft metel in to a harder piece, we measured the wear.

Because I am **** with my truck and I have 230K miles on her......I can justify spending the $$$ and I change my own oil, so 4000 miles is perfect for me, thats when my Mobil synth starts to show the dirt.....
remember I could justify buying gold winshield wipers for my baby, I dont mind, after 6 years of beating the hell outta here she never had a single complaint......

It's funny, A buddy of mine races his S-10 pickup on weekends under stock class, but has uses Syn. and has dual aux. oil filters. He changes his oil ever 4K. Almost 8 Quarts worth. He knows that he doesnt' have to. He was the guy that got me into the Auto Engineering Class. But he can't stand the fact of know the oil has over 4K on it. $70 for oil change (his) no thanks.

Not trying to say anybody is wrong

Are you calling me wrong!!!!!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR~!!!!!

hahahaha just kidding....

well wait until you open up the engine after 200K miles and find out it looks brand new with absolutely 0 sign of wear, then it will pay for itself, so you can spend the $$$ now or later.....it depends on how long you want to keep your truck and current engine, you can have mine when you pry the keys from my cold dead hands....also I plan to be buried in my truck :)

No I have been considering a bypass filter, then I could change it once a year or so, that would pay for itself also.......

It is all good man, that 's what makes this forum my favorite.

I was just on Amsoil Web page, and they claim changing there oil every 25K or once a year. There is no way in Hell i would do that. I don't care what they claim

I usually don't keep a vehical over 100K, no reason, I just need a new project from time to time. and you Know how woman are, They like having different stuff ever couple of years or so.

Congrats on your Bronco. 410 Fortune. I was reading your spec. and what did you get your 4.0 out of

the 4.0 came from a 93 Ex with a 5 speed and 60 K miles on it, that was almost 3 years ago.....

Thanks! The trucks come a LONG way......and is right now getting the "final" buildup stage (final off road stage III I am calling it) 33's, ARB, rear leafs, and fiberglass up front..... the only thing really left to do is a full cage, some serious suspension mods with bent beams (more articulation) and a few other minor details...but for now I can get back to just wheeling her, planning to build a 240HP 4.0L and new paint for next year. She will never be done, but when I finish this stuff that will be it for this year and I;m gonna start looking for a car.....
