This may sound like a dumb question, but can I get away with running 5w20 synthetic oil in a 98 5 liter? Right now its between 65 and 95 degrees where I live and i drive 40 miles +/- per day.

I've got Amsoil 0-30 in my 99 SOHC, and the same oil will go into my 347 very shortly. Any synthetic and the available viscosity will be better than the stock oil.

I remembered something, this is what Aldive uses in his mileage monster

He is also in a different climate, so he may benefit more from it year round then you would.

From his experience, you may be able to get a good answer. Try pm'ing him. Username: "Aldive"

I am whole lot harder on my vehicles than most anyone, my 99 SOHC has been my mail vehicle full time for 17 months. I went 11,000 miles with the Amsoil the first time, severe duty use should be held to 12,500 miles. Regards,

I have used the 0w20 oil before with no issues here in Florida.

In fact if Amsoil made it in their top end oil, I would use it still.

Good luck ....

I ran 0w30 Mobil 1 Full Synthetic in my truck. I switched to 5w-30 since wal mart is far from my new place and advance auto is right down the street

thanks for the replies. the oil is mobile 1 full synthetic by the way, and I found some where I can get it cheap(like $10 for a 6 qt jug)!

I just have never run oil this light before, I always had run 10w30 in everything.
