Ok so getting the pa853 3" body lift and my 31" bf AT's put on im having some major issues...My engine light is on and my overdrive light is blinking. The diagnostics says my speedometer sensor is malfunctioning. My transmission is acting erratic. At cruising speeds my rpms will just shoot up and ill lose power and then it slam back into gear causing my X to jump. My speedometer is just bouncing around not even working for the most part. The ford dealership I took it to had no idea what the deal was. They tried replacing the "front and back" speedometer sensors. And now I noticed today my odometer or tripometer isnt working either!!! I love my X and dont want to have to get rid of it. Its a 96' 4x4 4.0 L V6. Please Please help I know a lot of yall are knowledgable. Any suggestions at all will help. Help Help Help !

when they put the body lift on they stretched the wires going to your transmission, take a look at your transmission and make sure everything is all plugged in, take a look at the big plug near the back of your upper intake manifold, make sure it is seated firmly

you are going to have to find out where the wires got stretched/pulled apart, check all the plugs on the trans and going to it.

all yuor issues are related to transmission wiring for the speedometer, shift position sensor, etc

and all of that can account for the transmission not shifting right, the speedometer going crazy, the odometer and tripometer half ass working?

Yes, since the computer uses the speed sensor to control things such as shift points and obviously the speedometer.
On my 96 the sensor was in the t-case. I also have a 5 speed, but I don't think that makes a difference.

in 96 the speed sensor, or vss is either in the tailhousing of your transfer case (4x4) or the tailhousing of your transmission (2wd)
but it does not matter, the wiring goes through the same plug as the rest of your transmission wiring, along with the 02 sensors.

yes the computer not talking to the transmission propoerly will cause all of the issues you listed

ok so im gonna go to my "mechanic" and tell him its omost postively a issue with some wires running to the transmission correct?

there are like 30 wires running to the transmission, they are all in one harness, but then they split apart.
The harness attaches at the back of your engine, runs down the spine of the transmission and connects to the transmission in a big square plug on the drivers side on the side of the trans

He should check all these connections and ALL OF THE PLUGS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE TRANSMISSION to make sure they are seated.

that is going to be the problem i can almost swear by it but let us know how it turns out

Thanks for all the tips guys...Im basically gonna print all these suggestions out and give my mechanic a heads up...Ill let yall know how it goes...by the way anybody know of any cheap upgrades I can do to my X besides the K&N air filter that will boost its performance a little bit?

Do you have Pics

I'm about to put the PA853 on my 97 with 31" Tires. I would love to see how it looks before I do it. I'm sure it will look fine since Explorers Rock!:exp:
