Ok, im ready for the Fog lights!

Stephen, im not sure you understand my intentions?

I would like to run the factory fogs on their own, which i would like them to have their own switch!!

Cant i just go out and buy a wiring kit?

I was just going to cut the the harness off the back of the fog lamp and splice them withe the wire kit.

I have one junkyard in my area and they dont have any Explorers, the next junkyard is three hours away! I dont wana have to go that route.

Ok, I'm not sure of 2 things. First, I'm not sure about where you will be able to find a wiring kit that will have everything you need to wire up the Ford lights. You may find a universal kit somewhere with wire, fuses and a switch, but you'll be missing one important part (read on). I don't think that the lights you will be receiving from Ford Parts Network will come with any wires, plugs, or even bulbs. There won't be any harness there for you to cut off and splice into the wiring kit. The bulbs used in the factory fog lights look like little headlight bulbs...there are no wires connected to them. The plastic housing of the bulb serves as the receiving plug for the Ford factory plugs that can be found on an Explorer that was wired for fog lights from the factory. So what you may need to do is rob the wiring (plugs) from a fog light equipped explorer, and splice those into your wiring kit. Does that make sense??

Hey, im not thief!!;)

Yes i know what your saying, i think?

When i was at a local Ford Dealer last week, they showed me the fogs and bracket! On the back of the bracket, there was a plug. That plug would connect to the other plug under the hood if i had it. But your saying there is no plug, right!?

Did you understand what i had planed to do? I just woke up a little while ago( I work NightShift), so im may not be making much sence right now!:D

Ok that plug you saw must have been the buls already installed in its socket. Yes, that plug would plug into the socket under the hood (more behind the bumper), and you said it "if you had it." If your truck did not come with fog lights from Ford, you will not have that plug behind the bumper. That plug is what I am saying you need from another Explorer.

Ok, so i guess i cant do it the way i had planned then...is that what yer saying? I dont wanna have to go out and find that plug, instead i would just rather buy a wire kit with switch, relay and such! I would like the fog lights to run seperate from my head lights.

For me to find that plug that goes under the bumper would be next to impossible, local junkyard doesnt have any Explorers. Im screwed if i need this plug, there must be another way!?

Yes i realize i dont have that plug. I want to forget about that plug al together.

When the fogs come in, im gonna cut the plug off the fogs and buy a wireing kit. I guess i could splice factory harness with the new wire kit.

I said this twice above, either im missing somthing here or your not understanding what i mean...sorry if im not making this clear?!

I may not be understanding what you are saying. But when I got my factory fogs, there was no harness, no wires connected to the lights whatsoever. There was only a bulb. If you saw a plug on wires that you can cut off and use, then I didn't see what you saw when I got mine. In that case, then there shouldn't be anything else you need aside from some wire, a fuse, a switch, and a relay (if you want one) and you can wire them to come one whenever and however you want to.

OK, yeah it was a black wire with a plug on the end, this plug would connect to the plug under the bumper!

I dont know how to rig this up, but i'll try! Do you know where i can find a wire diagram?

These fogs are replacment fogs, so if i had that plug under the bumper all i would have to do is... bolt the bracket on and connect the two plugs together!

Do you understand now what im saying now?

Exactly. The fogs you're getting ar a little different than mine. Mine didn't have any wires or plugs, so I assumed none of them did--my mistake. :o So what you'll have to do (since you don't have the factory plug already behind your bumper) is to splice the wires on the fog light to the wires of your wiring kit. You shouldn't have to worry about any swiping any stock plugs off another truck.

Sorry for all of my confusion.

No, No, it was my fault!! I didnt explain it well enough?

It should be simple i guess.

Two more questions, someone told me it might be hard to find just a wireing kit? Do you know of any place that might sell just a kit? Do you know where i can find a diagram of how to wire this all up?

Thanks man, you have been of great help! Im lost when it comes to stuff like this!:(

it's no problem...we got it figured out now and that's all that matters.

A "wiring kit" may be hard to find. I would check the local auto parts stores, Wal-Marts, and such. Maybe you'll get lucky. If not, all you really need is some wire, a fuse, a relay, a switch, and some connectors and you can do all the wiring yourself. There are a few wiring diagrams around the boards here somewhere. I have a couple of threads in mind. I don't have time to search for them right now, but I will later. I'll post them up for you later if I can find them.

Here is a pm i just got from another board member...

I think you are thinking that the actual lamp has a plug on it. It doesnt. Just a hole that the bulb fits into. The bulb itself has the connection on it which is what the harness connects to. I think the bulb is a 9007. If you went to the store and looked at one it would be big because it has the connector and the bulb on it. Thats one of the reasons they are $15 each. That is why you will need to go to a junk yard to get those connectors. The bulb will plug into the wire and then twist and lock into the fog lamp.

So i guess i was wrong, so im gonna have to find this plug somwhere somhow, even if i have to pay the $15 bucks!

That's about what I was thinking. I doubted my instincts because I got my lights over Ebay, and never actually saw any new-in-the-box Ford lights and brackets. I would wait until you get the lights and see exactly what comes with them before you go in search of the plugs you need. Then you can explain exactly what you have in your hand, and we'll be able to figure out what you have to do.

Yes that's sounds alot better, i should have them is a day or two. I'll post a new thread or Pm you then.

Man i had no idea this would be such a pain in the arse, i might be better off getting aftermarket fogs and using the wire kit that come with them. I would guess it would be easyer that way.

Im off to work

Stephen, if you see this, i just sent you a PM!
