I was talking to my uncle tonight, and he said about 5 years ago he got an old cadillac car from some guy who owed him some money. The car is a 67' with around 60k miles on it. He is guessing it has either a 400, 427, 429, 454, 460, 500, or 502 in it. He is sure that it is a carbed motor. Which would be in a cadillac, the 454, or the 460? He said if I want the motor, I can have it. If its a 460, I plan on taking it out and sticking it into my 86 F150 which currently has a tired old fuel injected 302 in it.

If it does have a 454, how hard would it be to put into my truck? I would need a new tranny and everything wouldn't I?
Thanks,
Andy

460 big block is the ford

454 might be it, however soem caddys from back in the day had like bigger engines, like 502 ci

I know I've heard of some old caddys having 429's, 472's(?), and even 500's in them.

You should just look for a Cadillac with a 13.6L V-16 ;)

I highly doubt you will get a 454 in your truck no matter what you do. You may be able to shoehorn the 460 in the f-150. Is the motor even worth pulling? God knows what shape it WAS in before it sat for a long time. It was probably due for a rebuild before it was given up on.

The original cadillac big blocks were 425, 472, and 500. They are torque monsters and are only slightly larger than a chevy 350, and I mean very slightly. These motors are known for there monster torque and hp capabilities. For the cost of a normal high performance rebuild on most engines they can produce 600 ft/lbs and about 600 hp. I currently have a book wrote by Doc Frohmader (Big Inch Cadillac), that gives all the details of making a 540 C.I. torque monster. I have found lots of sites dealing with big inch caddy's, and found that there are a lot of vendors out there supporting these monster motors. Do a google search and check them out, you may be amazed.

Well, I was out at my uncles today for christmas and I took a look at the motor. I could find nothing on the car that said what size motor it had. There was no catalyst under the hood, or anything inside the door jamb. All I know is it is one big motor, and it looks to be in good shape. My cousin said he moved the car about 2 years ago and it roared like a beast and had tons of power, and that the only thing wrong with it at the time was the battery was shot. How can I tell what size motor it is?????

Alright, I'v just been doing some searching around on the web, and im almost 100% positive that it has a 429 in it. Isn't a 429 a ford motor? Would the tranny that is on my 302 bolt up to this?

429 Is a late 60's/early 70's Ford Engine.

I was used in the Boss Mustangs and Torino Cobras

Also called a Cobra jet or Super Cobra Jet

Try firing up that bad boy before doing anything else!

Check all fluids and such first though LOL

I was just looking on an F150 site, and I found that my tranny wont work because the 302 is a smallblock and the 429 is a bigblock, and the bellhousing wont fit. Can I just swap the bellhousing from the vehicle that has the 429, and put that bellhousing on my 4 speed tranny?

You're going to need both the cadillac engine and the transmission meant for that engine. I highly doubt there are going to be any adapters for your situation. This swap is going to be alot of work and going to require research on your part and fabbing of some new parts to get everything in there right. It's gonna probably cost a fair amount of money too.

Caddy is GM, not Ford. Ive never heard of a 429 caddy..... there was a 425 but i dont think there was a 429. If there was, it would not match any of the FoMoCo stuff.

EDIT- im full of crap, they did have a 429. But, i wont work with your Ford tranny. :)

can't I take the bellhousing that is on the 429 right now, and stick it on my 4 speed tranny? Will that work, or wont the bellhousing from that tranny bolt on to my tranny?

Depending on the transmission probably not. but there is more to it than that. If you have an auto you're going to need a different flywheel most likely as well as a new torque converter.

Whats the factory caddy tranny? Whats the f-150 tranny, an AOD?

The F150 tranny is a 4 speed manual, and the Caddy tranny is an automatic

caddy made a 429, forget what years, I'd have to look it up. Another interesting fact is that pontiac and ford both made 428's. There are many engine displacements that were made by more than one company. How about the Ford and AMC 390's.

:chug: :chug:

Or the 302 made by Chevy for the Camaro lol
