Opinion On Goodyear Wranglers?

I need a set of rear tires for my 92 EXploder. The local Walmart has the P-235-75R-15s onsale for 80 bucks Canadian. I think this is a pretty good deal. Anyone use them? How are they for mild off roading? I do a lot of hunting and crawl through mud and snow. Milage wise--do they hold up?
I have Khumos on the front right now--they came with the truck when I bought it last year. They still have at least 3/4 tread on them and I put almost 40k kms on them so far. I am impressed with those--but can't find them around here. Are the Wranglers ok?

They are not too good in the snow & ice! That I can tell you.

Goodyear Wrangler R/T's are absolutely the worst tire I've ever had. Have owned 35-40 vehicles in my lifetime and have bought many tires. The Wranglers hydroplane at the drop of a hat, absolutely no traction in snow and ice. Slush? You ride on top of it. Handling? You're always on edge. Switched these Wrangler R/T's out with half the tread left...too dangerous...and I mean too dangerous!

I personally don't like them. They don't have very good traction. They are more susceptible to different pavement types also. For instance if you drive over milled grooved pavement the grooves will affect the steering a lot more than with other tires. I would take a set of Firestone ATXs over them any day. The only thing they have going for them is they're quiet.

i have them on my truck and they do slip alot! in wet weather of any type but i thought it was just my driving lol i have a HEAVY foot lol needs 3 new tires before winter so we will see what happens

you'll be sorry, I've had the GOOD YEAR RTS model on my 2002 sport,,, They featherd alot on the front even w/ the proper tire pressure! And it's true that the hydro plaining was unbeliveable! Did anyone else have a problem w/ proper wear? I just switched to a proven winner, bfg long trail, they are supposed to have good on and off road, but excellent wear! and wet weather. Hope u enjoy the tires and have better luck then myself!

I had wrangler RTS on mine and they are good and bad.
GOOD: They lasted for about 57k miles
On dry roads they handled decently
BAD: They were okay in the rain, once they get to 50%, they like to slide
They are not very good in the snow, they like to slide around easily
They are horrible on the ice

35-40 cars at least...had 2 1932 Chevy coupes w/rumble seat by the age of 15 and by 23 had owned a 1939 Ford coupe w/a souped up 1948 Mercury flathead V-8, 1946 Ford coupe, 1950 Plymouth customized, 1957 Chevy convertible. And the list goes on through the years including some rather valuable cars (1936 Cord roadster, 3 Austin Healey 3000's, 1961 Porsche convertible D, 1970 Buick GS455 convertible) and some real dogs (1967 Dodge, 1963 Corvair convertible, 1959 VW canvas sunroof, 1992 Mercedes 300E-there's a story). Cars are fun, but found that making money on them in your spare time is totally idealistic...gotta' just buy them for personal enjoyment. My Mountaineer ranks in there as one of the best; very low maintenance and very reliable.

I have P235/75R15 wrangler RTS on my 92 sport. Like others have said, they don't have the best wet traction. I once did a 360 in the middle of an intersection while turning left because I was trying to do a little fishtail. oops!

They're not that great on snow either.

It took 8 inches of half frozen mud to the X stuck with these tires.

Mine have about 15,x.. miles on them and ther're just starting to show signs of wear. I just wish that they'd wear out so that I have a good reason to get some 31s... For this reason I call them the "good for too dang many years"

I had a set on my X and they were mediocre at best. I got my X stuck in my neigbors backyard with the front tires on pavement (2wd) they have no mud traction, poor wet traction and scary at the limit.

I have BFG Longtrails on it now, and my only complaint is they squeal waaaaaaay too much.

All I can say is JUNK!! About half way through the they get hard and are terrible in the rain. Plus every set I have had gets out of round.

YUCK YUCK and more YUCK!!! I hated these tires. I got mine from the recall thing a few years back. I wished I had lucked up and gotten the Michelins. If you have a few extra bucks, buy better tire.

We dont get much ice and snow here, so I can't vouch for the weather issues. But as for normal wear they suck and they flat spot easily.

My goodies ain't so darn good. Bald as heck right now, and I can vouch for the comment regarding changes in pavement affecting steering. My steering wheel is just about ripped outta my hands when I go on milled pavement. They did all right last winter in the snow, but I chalk that up to my 4X4 and my excellent driving skills more so than the tires themselves. They've got about 30000+ miles on them in a year and a half and I was hoping they'd make it through the winter but there is no way in hell I'm gonna try to drive in the snow on those things.
If you keep em rotated and don't need em for snow I reckon they'll do okay, I can't say I hate mine, but I ain't gonna buy another set, thats for sure.

I definitely need them for snow. Lots of it. Thanks for the replies. All I can say is I don't think these were the RTS? They did have the BFG Longtrails on awhile back--maybe I will wait a bit more. I may check out Canadian Tire and see what they have to offer. The Khumhos I have on the front are unreal--they have gone 40k since I have had the truck and still don't see any wear yet. I never did rotate them. I wish I could find a set of those for the back--may have to bite the bullet and shell out some extra.
