I was wondering what people thought about wind deflectors on the 4th generations. I like the fact that it lets me crack my windows for fresh air during bad weather and reduces sound, but do you think it makes the Explorer look cheap and tacky?!?

I never liked them. I always thought the only reason people put them on their cars was to allow the window to be opened during bad weather so they can smoke.

I would argue that the new 06/07 explorers are quiet enough that if you put them on it would create more wind noise, not less.

I'm also a big fan of a very "clean" look. I put very few additions on my explorers (some hella lights, etc) and when I do I go to a lot of trouble to make it look "integrated" and "stock". The accessory aisle of Advance Auto parts is my worst nightmare ;)

I Love them!

I have had AVS Brand smoke colored "vent visors" on every vehicle that I have owned. I am not a smoker, but appreciate the ventilation that theses allow. On a hot day, you can crack the windows about an inch and allow the extreme heat to vent. I also enjoy them from the perspective of keeping rain out of my interior. I hate pulling up to an ATM or drive-thru window in the rain only to have water come in on my door panel and window controls. These help with that problem significantly.

I also feel that they do "dress up" the truck. Ford offers the AVS ventshades under a Ford Logo'd part...but they are identical.

There are two types...Tape -On, secured with 3M tape, and in-channel that use pressure/tension to stay in place in the window frame channels.

I prefer the tape on. I have tried both, and the in-channel have broken or fallen out. The tape on ones look cleaner installed and never come loose.

Stores like Pep-Boys and AutoZone stock them but be prepaired to pay retail. Ebay has them for about $40 - $45 shipped.

It all comes down to personal preference, but I hadn't even picked up my Explorer before I had placed my order for mine...had to have them ASAP.

We're getting a set put on our new '07 today. Not too thrilled about it, but its not my car.

I have them on mine and I love them, I even put them on my new car. I think they are a requirement in the summer. I can leave my windows cracked and the keep the car much much cooler and not worry about the occasional downpour. I say go for it, but it will make it louder from the wind noise, but I have a cargo basket on the roof, so I don't really notice the difference.

I've got the In-Channel ones on my '06 and I love them. They look so much cleaner then having them taped to the outside and I've never had problems with them falling out or breaking.

I like 'em! Got a set with my new (to me) '02 Ranger and they work just fine.
mostly it's about being able to crack the windows in the rain, when it's cool enough to not need a/c otherwise.
and frankly, nothing should ever be taped to a vehicle save for a few emergency conditions.

I have them (also did on my Escape) and am very pleased with them...

Noiser? hard to say as they went on when she got home that night... :)

They went on today, the in-channels look awesome, and got them cheap on ebay, not so windy, and I love the fact that I can air out the car now since its the summer :)

Got 'em on my '06 and I love them. I have the stick on ones. I had the in channel on a cavalier and didn't like them, just my opinion.
