Can someone inform me of any negatives on the drivetrain, to running 265/70/16's on a stock 96 XLT, 4x4, 4.0 liter.

255/16/70 or listed as optional.

I don't think that's a problem.. 265/70/16 is close to 31x10,50-16
I was running 31x10,50-15 on my old first gen explorer and that was no problem

Like listed, there really won't be any negatives besides maybe a slightly higher purchase price, but that can vary from tire to tire.

That size jump isn't really big enough to cause a major decrease in power or a ton more stress.

You should be fine..

My speedo is really screwed up right now.

Door sticker says 225/70R15, currently running 31x10.5x15.. So that's splendid.
