Ordered waiting for spring...

Hey Joe, are the ADS microfiber towels better than the Megs ones? Bc I have tried the Megs ones and the Target ones and I find the Megs ones buff out a lot better than the Target ones do.

I get the ADS- they're way better than the junk MF's at the chain stores. They're ok for interiors and stuff, but for paint, the ADS towels are the ones I use. The Megs towels are really nice, I think they are a little more consistent in cut size, and the plush side might do a little better for removing heavily applied wax, but for what you mostly do, the ADS MF's are great.

Here is actually a thread about it:

Thanks a lot joe. Ill add them to my order from ADS which I will be placing in the coming weeks.

Also thanks to this thread I ordered a DA with Microfiber Kit which should be in today. Very excited!

It's a great tool- see my Deuce registry thread for pics of the results of the MF kit...

Hey Joe, I just got my DA with Microfiber today. Used it on the hood and it really does a good job. However some swirls and scratches were still present and was wondering if you had any tips for optimum results.

It depends on how deep they are- I got about 95% correction on my truck, some were too deep though, and wouldn't be removed without either wetsanding or endangering the clearcoat by taking too much off.

Did you claybar prior to using the MF system?

I went over some of mine twice, but mainly one pass. The biggest learning curve for me was how little of the product I had to use.

After priming the pad, this was all I used per panel, this pic was after 2 doors and a front fender.

I loaded one pad too much, and killed it after one door, and noticed that it was not cleaning as much, and left swirls and didn't remove nearly as much as when I started. Might be what happened on yours? I used this pad for all but one door and one fender, and it looked virtually the same as that pic afterwards.

I hit it with a cleaning brush after each panel to pick the piles back up on the MF. What kind of DA are you running?

I have the g110v2 came with the kit. I primed the pad much like yours seemed, and tried to use less product as I went. I think that may ultimately be what I need to get the most used to as well as remembering to clean the pad with the brush after each section.

I did claybar the truck before I hit it with the microfiber, maybe I need a more aggressive clay?

Then again this was my first time ever using a machine to polish my truck so I expect to get better at it as time goes on.

There is a learning curve to it, I do know for sure that if the MF pad has more than the above product on/in the pile, the cutting ability is very greatly reduced. Also- make sure you're using the correct MF pad for the D300 compound (red backer to match the liquid). Do you have some pics to post up? That may help...

Might check out Rasky's writeup here: CLICK as it saves me from some typing... :)

Also- hitting with a polish will remove the haze after the D300.

This is my hood after just the D300 on the left, and after both the D300 and D301 on the right, polish does help...

Didnt get any pics today, Ill try tomorrow.

Im going to read that link you sent me and try again tomorrow morning and see if I can get better results.

Thanks joe for all your insight and help, much appreciation.

No prob- I'll be around this weekend, but spotty. If you need help, just post up and I'll try to check periodically...

Ive been using the MF DA system a few times the past week and I think Im starting to get the hang of it. I think I still need to slow down my arm speed and shrink my work section down a bit still, also need some clean MF towels. Otherwise I am very impressed with the system. Did a 50/50 on the hood and I pretty much knocked all swirls on the one half out, there are however some scratches too deep.

I also tried it on my toyota prius and got pretty much every swirl out of that hood, the surface was so smooth I couldnt stop looking at it. I do have to say the toyota paint was softer than the ford paint.

There is a learning curve, and if you can get 90% plus correction simply with a pad and compound without sanding, that's stellar...

Pics!

my ugly mug shot lol.

I did the passenger side rear door on my moms 05 freestyle. Typical black car, swirled up some scratches I was able to virtually get out and some too deep that sanding would be required. Overall I was very happy with how the door turned out. My camera doesnt do the best job but I think this is a good enough shot.

Absolutely...

Absolutely...

hey joe did any of your cutting discs separate from the velcro backing? Bc one of mine did and I saw a few people on the Megs forum had the same problem.

Nope, but if you call Meg's customer service, they will replace it for you... What backer plate are you using on your DA?

Hey Joe, are you excited for the new 2012 Megs products?

I just started looking over them the other day- haven't seen anything yet too exciting, I like the brake dust blocker, but at an 8 oz. can, doubt I'd buy it. It's probably too expensive for me to use regularly even though it says 3-4 washes before reapplication. The headlight protection product looks good... Have to spend some more time looking at the rest.

The rinseless wash and waterless wash seem interesting. I might try the glass cleaner too. The Gold Class Spray Wax seems like it could be good.
